Un fonds saoudien s\u2019est officiellement empar\u00e9 jeudi de Newcastle, club du nord-est de l\u2019Angleterre, au terme de longues n\u00e9gociations et malgr\u00e9 l\u2019opposition d\u2019associations de d\u00e9fense des droits humains. \u00ab Nous sommes extr\u00eamement fiers de devenir les nouveaux propri\u00e9taires de Newcastle United, l\u2019un des clubs les plus c\u00e9l\u00e8bres du football anglais \u00bb, s\u2019est f\u00e9licit\u00e9 le patron du fonds saoudien, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, dans un communiqu\u00e9. Le club, appartenant depuis 14 ans \u00e0 l\u2019homme d\u2019affaires britannique Mike Ashley, est d\u00e9sormais d\u00e9tenu par un consortium comprenant le fonds d\u2019investissement saoudien, PCP Capital Partners et les fr\u00e8res David et Simon Reuben, rachat qui a re\u00e7u le feu vert de la Premier League. L\u2019instance qui chapeaute le Championnat d\u2019Angleterre avait pourtant \u00e9t\u00e9 interpell\u00e9e plus t\u00f4t jeudi par Amnesty International, l\u2019ONG s\u2019alarmant d\u2019une reprise par un fonds souverain d\u2019Arabie saoudite, et qualifiant la situation des droits humains de \u00ab d\u00e9sastreuse \u00bb dans le pays dirig\u00e9 de fait par le prince h\u00e9ritier Mohammed ben Salmane. Les Saoudiens avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 tent\u00e9 d\u2019acqu\u00e9rir les \u00ab Magpies \u00bb durant l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 2020, sans succ\u00e8s, handicap\u00e9s par la personnalit\u00e9 du prince h\u00e9ritier, accus\u00e9 de multiples atteintes aux droits humains. La deuxi\u00e8me tentative est finalement la bonne, le club \u00e9tant \u00ab vendu au consortium avec effet imm\u00e9diat \u00bb, selon un communiqu\u00e9 de la Premier League, pr\u00e9cisant que l\u2019organisme a \u00ab re\u00e7u des garanties l\u00e9galement contraignantes que le Royaume d\u2019Arabie saoudite ne contr\u00f4lera pas le club de Newcastle United \u00bb. La vente, dont le montant s\u2019\u00e9l\u00e8ve \u00e0 environ 300 millions de livres (333 millions d\u2019euros) repr\u00e9sente un \u00ab investissement de long terme \u00bb d\u2019apr\u00e8s la directrice g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de PCP Capital Partners, Amanda Staveley, qui ajoute viser \u00ab des troph\u00e9es majeurs \u00bb. Newcastle entre dans le cercle des clubs d\u00e9pendant des immenses fortunes des pays du Golfe. Le pouvoir saoudien marque ainsi un peu plus sa pr\u00e9sence dans le monde du sport, alors que le pays accueille de grandes courses automobiles comme le rallye du Dakar depuis 2020, ou prochainement une manche du championnat du monde de Formule 1, une mani\u00e8re de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la politique ambitieuse de ses rivaux r\u00e9gionaux comme le Qatar, hyper-pr\u00e9sent depuis une d\u00e9cennie avec en point d\u2019orgue, l\u2019organisation du Mondial-2022 de football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>R.
