Cette cons\u00e9cration internationale couronne des ann\u00e9es d&rsquo;efforts pour pr\u00e9server et valoriser ce patrimoine unique, \u00e9l\u00e9ment fondamental de l&rsquo;identit\u00e9 alg\u00e9rienne. Le caftan constantinois figure parmi les pi\u00e8ces ma\u00eetresses du dossier relatif au costume f\u00e9minin de c\u00e9r\u00e9monie dans le Grand Est alg\u00e9rien, dont la richesse et la diversit\u00e9 t\u00e9moignent d&rsquo;un savoir-faire ancestral jalousement gard\u00e9 et transmis de g\u00e9n\u00e9ration en g\u00e9n\u00e9ration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;histoire du caftan en Alg\u00e9rie remonte \u00e0 des temps imm\u00e9moriaux, traversant les \u00e9poques et les dynasties qui ont fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 le pays. Meriem Gueba\u00eflia, directrice du Mus\u00e9e national des arts et expressions culturelles traditionnelles de Constantine rappelle que le caftan \u00e9tait initialement un v\u00eatement masculin port\u00e9 par les souverains des dynasties Ziride durant leur r\u00e8gne en Afrique du Nord (Xe-XIVe si\u00e8cle) et Zianide, avant de se transformer progressivement en un costume f\u00e9minin d&rsquo;apparat, symbole de faste et d&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e9gance lors des c\u00e9r\u00e9monies nuptiales et festives. C&rsquo;est v\u00e9ritablement \u00e0 partir du XVIe si\u00e8cle, sous l&rsquo;influence ottomane, que le caftan conna\u00eet une \u00ab\u00a0expansion notable\u00a0\u00bb, port\u00e9 par l&rsquo;essor remarquable de l&rsquo;artisanat traditionnel alg\u00e9rien. Les archives historiques attestent de son importance sociale : des actes de mariage datant du XVIIe si\u00e8cle, conserv\u00e9s \u00e0 Constantine et Alger, mentionnent explicitement le caftan comme \u00e9l\u00e9ment incontournable de la dot nuptiale, soulignant sa valeur tant mat\u00e9rielle que symbolique dans les rituels matrimoniaux alg\u00e9riens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le \u00ab\u00a0Caftan El-Kadi\u00a0\u00bb, l&rsquo;un des mod\u00e8les les plus embl\u00e9matiques, incarne \u00e0 la perfection ce \u00ab\u00a0caract\u00e8re patrimonial profond\u00e9ment enracin\u00e9 dans la plupart des familles du grand Est alg\u00e9rien\u00a0\u00bb, comme le rappelle Mme Gueba\u00eflia. Sa confection rel\u00e8ve d&rsquo;un v\u00e9ritable art, mobilisant les mat\u00e9riaux les plus nobles et les techniques les plus raffin\u00e9es. Velours, soie ou tissus soyeux, laine ou coton forment la base de ces pi\u00e8ces d&rsquo;exception, avant d&rsquo;\u00eatre sublim\u00e9s par le talent des brodeurs. Aissaoui Mohamed, chef du d\u00e9partement \u00ab\u00a0inventaire et conservation\u00a0\u00bb au Mus\u00e9e national du Bardo \u00e0 Alger, \u00e9voque avec admiration \u00ab\u00a0le g\u00e9nie du design et de la broderie des artisans alg\u00e9riens\u00a0\u00bb qui ont su marier avec maestria les mat\u00e9riaux pr\u00e9cieux : fils d&rsquo;or et d&rsquo;argent courent sur le tissu, formant des motifs d&rsquo;une infinie d\u00e9licatesse, parfois rehauss\u00e9s de pierres pr\u00e9cieuses qui captent la lumi\u00e8re et transforment chaque caftan en une \u0153uvre d&rsquo;art \u00e0 part enti\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Des mus\u00e9es du monde entier comme \u00e9crins<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La renomm\u00e9e du caftan alg\u00e9rien d\u00e9passe largement les fronti\u00e8res nationales, comme en t\u00e9moigne sa pr\u00e9sence dans de prestigieuses institutions culturelles \u00e0 travers le monde. Les collections alg\u00e9riennes aux mus\u00e9es nationaux du Bardo d&rsquo;Alger, des arts et traditions populaires de la Casbah et du Mus\u00e9e national des antiquit\u00e9s et des arts islamiques constituent bien s\u00fbr les ensembles les plus complets, avec notamment une vingtaine de pi\u00e8ces exceptionnelles au Bardo, datant pour la plupart de la fin du XIXe et du d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle. Mais c&rsquo;est peut-\u00eatre \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tranger que la reconnaissance du caftan alg\u00e9rien comme joyau du patrimoine mondial prend tout son sens. Le Mus\u00e9e de Stockholm expose fi\u00e8rement un caftan offert par Ali Pacha au roi de Su\u00e8de lors de la signature du trait\u00e9 de 1731, t\u00e9moignage \u00e9loquent de l&rsquo;importance diplomatique accord\u00e9e \u00e0 ce v\u00eatement d&rsquo;apparat. \u00c0 Vienne, le mus\u00e9e conserve pr\u00e9cieusement des caftans alg\u00e9riens, dont un mod\u00e8le en soie de Tlemcen et une collection ayant appartenu \u00e0 l&rsquo;imp\u00e9ratrice d&rsquo;Autriche Elisabeth de Wittelsbach, la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u00ab\u00a0Sissi\u00a0\u00bb (1837-1898). Plus symbolique encore, le Mus\u00e9e de Damas en Syrie abrite un caftan ayant appartenu \u00e0 Lalla Zineb, fille de l&rsquo;\u00c9mir Abdelkader, h\u00e9ros national alg\u00e9rien, cr\u00e9ant ainsi un pont entre patrimoine vestimentaire et histoire de la r\u00e9sistance nationale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malgr\u00e9 les profonds bouleversements socioculturels qu&rsquo;a connus l&rsquo;Alg\u00e9rie au fil des d\u00e9cennies, le caftan demeure un \u00e9l\u00e9ment central de son identit\u00e9. Comme le souligne la chercheuse en patrimoine Asma Bathi, ce costume mill\u00e9naire est \u00ab\u00a0jalousement pr\u00e9serv\u00e9 et perp\u00e9tu\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb \u00e0 travers les \u00e2ges, conservant son aura et sa place privil\u00e9gi\u00e9e dans les moments les plus importants de la vie sociale alg\u00e9rienne. Les artisans contemporains, \u00e0 l&rsquo;image de Fouad Azzi, sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 dans la conception et la couture de costumes f\u00e9minins traditionnels, jouent un r\u00f4le crucial dans cette transmission. Ils ne se contentent pas de reproduire \u00e0 l&rsquo;identique les mod\u00e8les ancestraux, mais les font \u00e9voluer subtilement, adaptant coupes et motifs aux sensibilit\u00e9s contemporaines sans jamais trahir l&rsquo;essence m\u00eame du caftan. Pour ces gardiens d&rsquo;un savoir-faire unique, chaque point brod\u00e9, chaque ornement ajout\u00e9 participe \u00e0 la construction d&rsquo;un dialogue entre pass\u00e9 et pr\u00e9sent, entre tradition et modernit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aujourd&rsquo;hui plus que jamais, le caftan alg\u00e9rien rayonne bien au-del\u00e0 de sa fonction vestimentaire originelle. Objet patrimonial, t\u00e9moin historique, symbole identitaire et chef-d&rsquo;\u0153uvre artisanal, il incarne la r\u00e9silience d&rsquo;une culture et la capacit\u00e9 d&rsquo;un peuple \u00e0 pr\u00e9server son h\u00e9ritage tout en le faisant vivre.
