L’Organisation mondiale de la sant\u00e9 a officiellement certifi\u00e9, le 17 avril, que l’Alg\u00e9rie avait \u00e9limin\u00e9 le trachome en tant que probl\u00e8me de sant\u00e9 publique. La nouvelle, annonc\u00e9e mardi par le minist\u00e8re de la Sant\u00e9, place le pays dans un cercle encore restreint de nations ayant franchi ce cap. C’est la quatri\u00e8me maladie transmissible \u00e9limin\u00e9e en Alg\u00e9rie, apr\u00e8s d’autres succ\u00e8s enregistr\u00e9s ces derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies dans la lutte contre les grandes end\u00e9mies. Le trachome n’est pas une maladie anodine. Caus\u00e9e par la bact\u00e9rie Chlamydia trachomatis<\/em>, elle est la principale cause infectieuse de c\u00e9cit\u00e9 dans le monde et continue de toucher des millions de personnes, principalement dans les zones rurales pauvres d’Afrique subsaharienne et du Moyen-Orient. Son \u00e9limination \u00ab requiert des efforts soutenus, une coordination multisectorielle et un engagement durable \u00bb, rappelle le communiqu\u00e9 du minist\u00e8re, qui mesure ainsi l’ampleur du travail accompli. Car c’est bien de travail de longue haleine qu’il s’agit. La strat\u00e9gie internationale contre le trachome repose sur un protocole dit CHANCE \u2014 chirurgie des cas avanc\u00e9s, antibioth\u00e9rapie de masse, hygi\u00e8ne faciale, am\u00e9lioration de l’environnement. D\u00e9ploy\u00e9e pendant des ann\u00e9es dans les r\u00e9gions du pays historiquement touch\u00e9es, notamment au Sud, cette approche a combin\u00e9 campagnes de traitement, acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l’eau potable et sensibilisation des communaut\u00e9s. \u00ab Il s’agit d’une victoire collective rendue possible apr\u00e8s plusieurs ann\u00e9es de mobilisation nationale \u00bb, souligne le minist\u00e8re. La reconnaissance de l’OMS ne se limite pas \u00e0 un satisfecit symbolique. Elle valide une trajectoire de sant\u00e9 publique fond\u00e9e, selon le minist\u00e8re, sur \u00ab la pr\u00e9vention, l’acc\u00e8s \u00e9quitable aux soins et l’am\u00e9lioration des conditions de vie \u00bb. En rejoignant le groupe des pays certifi\u00e9s, l’Alg\u00e9rie s’aligne sur des standards que peu de pays africains ont atteints. \u00ab Cette certification internationale t\u00e9moigne de la capacit\u00e9 de notre pays \u00e0 atteindre les standards les plus exigeants en mati\u00e8re de sant\u00e9 publique \u00bb, affirme le communiqu\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de l’OMS, le Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, a adress\u00e9 personnellement ses f\u00e9licitations au ministre de la Sant\u00e9, le professeur Mohamed Seddik A\u00eft Messaoudane. \u00ab L’\u00e9limination d’une maladie comme le trachome est un grand succ\u00e8s pour la sant\u00e9 publique, qui a n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 des efforts et un d\u00e9vouement au long cours \u00bb, a-t-il \u00e9crit, saluant \u00ab ce succ\u00e8s historique \u00bb du gouvernement alg\u00e9rien. Une formule de courtoisie diplomatique, certes, mais qui, venant du patron de l’OMS, a son poids dans les enceintes sanitaires internationales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le ministre a, de son c\u00f4t\u00e9, rendu hommage aux \u00ab experts du Comit\u00e9 national de lutte contre le trachome, aux professionnels de sant\u00e9 \u00e0 travers le territoire national, aux partenaires nationaux et internationaux \u00bb, ainsi qu’\u00e0 l’OMS pour \u00ab son accompagnement constant \u00bb. Le communiqu\u00e9 conclut sur un engagement : l’Alg\u00e9rie entend \u00ab maintenir ces acquis et contribuer activement aux initiatives r\u00e9gionales et internationales visant l’\u00e9limination des maladies \u00e9vitables \u00bb. Autrement dit, la certification n’est pas un point final, mais une base pour aller plus loin \u2014 peut-\u00eatre vers un r\u00f4le de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence sur le continent dans la lutte contre les maladies n\u00e9glig\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
